What’s funny is that the Netherlands is known as a super progressive and pro LGBTQ country (they were the first country to legalize gay marriage, pride here is a huge deal, and many of my friends deem it safe to be out), but even in my friend’s ultra-leftist neighborhood these posters were vandalized. It makes me so mad when people say “you don’t need more rights//you can marry, what else do you want//what oppression lol everyone is equal in the West :))))” because it’s so fucking ignorant and false.

If I understand correctly, these are ceramic bowls floating in a pool of water, possibly in a cave because it’s echo-y, and the clinking sound is them bumping into one another. Like wind chimes, but … water chimes?
yo, i saw this in person over the summer! it’s an art installation!
the piece is called clinamen v.2, created by Céleste Boursier-Mougenot and included as a part of the Soundtracks exhibit in the moma - i saw it in san fran, and this photo is from a showing in new york:
the exhibit is a large shallow pool filled with white ceramic bowls in varying sizes. the bowls are pushed around the pool by a gentle current, and the sound created as they hit each other is somewhere between a wind chime and a haunted bell.
i sat there for a solid ten minutes just watching the bowls move around while listening to the sounds they made. it was absolutely hypnotic…
Soundtracks runs in the san fran moma until january 1st 2018, and i absolutely recommend going if you can. many of the exhibits play with sound in 3D spaces, and there are some truly wild contraptions on display.
My dad’s a criminologist, but when I was little, I didn’t know how to pronounce that word properly, so I told my kindergarten teacher, among other people, that he’s a criminal instead. Yesterday, I was talking to a dude I met at the dog park (our dogs play with each other a lot), and idk how we even got to that, but he told me a story how when he was like 8, he walked his family dog alone and someone in the park asked him where his dad was, to which he replied, “In jail,” and that person got extremely flustered and changed the topic. Turns out, his dad works in prison, but the person misunderstood and thought he was jailed instead. Kids, man.
My dad works as a pharmaceutical manager, but as a kid I could never remember that. So at school once I told my school counselor that he sold drugs. And then to make matters worse, I realized what I said, so I tried to clarifying it by saying either “legal drugs” or “not illegal drugs” but I accidentally smashed them together and said “illegal drugs”.
My mom works as a probation officer but has to go into courts/prisons often. One day in pre-k my teacher asked where my mom was and i said “in court”. The next day she asked if my mom was home and i said “no she’s in jail”.
